We have seen a change in transportation recently. While the majority of people in the western world seemed most interested in travelling via automobile, in the last couple of decades many people have been choosing the bicycle as their primary mode of transportation. It could be down to efforts to remain green, perhaps people want to save money on high gas prices, or maybe many people just want to get in shape! No matter what has caused it, the fact is there are now more cyclists on the road than in a long while. Maybe you have considered buying a bike? If you have been thinking about using a bike as your main mode of transportation, or just thinking about getting one for fun, there are a few things you need to think about.
We’d be lying if we tried to tell you that fashion shouldn’t play into your choice. The fact is that we all have color and style preferences. When choosing your bike you shouldn't ignore them. Using style and fashion preferences as your main criteria is silly, unless you are only getting a bike to look good. Safety and comfort should be considered first. But once you have found the safest and most comfortable bicycles, there is no reason you shouldn’t narrow down your choice further by how the bike appeals to you visually.
Are you going to need to accommodate extra accessories? news If you will need to transport things with your bike, you’ll need a basket. Will a child ever be transported on your bike? Attaching a child seat is not possible for every bike, so choose wisely. If towing something behind the bike, your need will change again. If so, you will need to find a bicycle that can support the weight of a small trailer or whatever else you will be towing behind you.
How many gears do you need? Traveling through flat areas requires far less gears than riding in a mountainous area. Just because a bike has more gears doesn't make it better. You may never even get around to using all the available gears. Don't waste your money on something you won't use. Of course, if your cycling bicycle is going to be your primary mode of transportation you might need to make sure you have enough gears to handle rough situations. There are plenty of things to consider when choosing a bike. There are people who view the durability of a bike to be most important, this is especially true if you plan to use your bike a lot over rough terrain. Others need a bicycle that will help get them from point to point with very little chance of breaking down. Some people have to think very seriously about the price they are paying for a bike. It is important to do your research and to shop around before you buy a bicycle. Don’t just buy the first bicycle that looks good—you could get stuck with a lemon!
